Happy Holidays to all the fans of SIX, old and new!
As 2007 rolls to a close, we take a quick look back at our first full year as a band, bring you up to date on some recent events, and look forward to bigger and better things in the new year...
While our first "official" gig as a band occurred back in 2006 (a rousing 5-song performance at the 2nd Congregational Church in Winchester), 2007 marks our first performances under our band moniker, SIX (not to mention with the accompanying logo, as well as some decent PA gear), which we chose back in April. Our first gig of 2007 was in May, at the Waldorf School in Lexington, MA - notable in that we played for the school's semi-regular "coffeehouse", which usually features only acoustic performers. After getting special dispensation from the school to bring in our vast array of amplifiers, we proceeded to provide the crowd with a truly "electric" performance. Two outdoor private parties over the summer in our home town of Winchester followed. The first was notable for being our first performance (and only, so far) to be shut down by local police.
Our final 2 gigs in 2007 came on consecutive weekends in November. First, we played Chidley Hall, located at the First Congregational Church in Winchester. The event was held both as a social event, as well as a fundraiser to benefit the Woburn Council of Social Concern. On a wet and windy evening, dozens of Winchester residents and friends
came out to hear us play and dance the night away. A minor equipment malfunction (as opposed to wardrobe malfunction) could halt us only temporarily. A week later, we performed at Winchester's Town Hall in support of a fundraiser for the Winchester ABC Program (Winchester ABC is a chapter of A Better Chance, Inc., a national nonprofit organization founded in 1963 to provide academically talented male and female scholars of color with expanded educational and career opportunities.). For the night, we first backed local singer Annette Farrington on a number of songs, and then proceeded to keep the patrons dancing with a more standard SIX setlist.
2007 also saw our repertoire expand by leaps and bounds. In our quest to become "Winchester's Premier Party Band", we've added a number of party/dance tunes to our setlists. While our focus remains songs from the era of what is now known as "classic rock" (because "oldies" are what our parents listened to, not what WE listened to), our repertoire stretches from the 1950's to the 1990's, covering a diversity of artists - from The Beatles to The Clash, from The Rolling Stones to Matchbox 20, from Neil Young to ZZ Top, from The Doors to David Bowie, and from Bob Dylan to The J. Geils Band. Our full repertoire, among other things, can be found at our band website, www.ILikeSIX.com.
And speaking of the website, we recently added a Web Log (more popularly known as a "Blog") to our site to post various things such as notes and photos from past gigs, announcements of future gigs, and other random musings from the band (including these fan emails). The Blog is linked to the band website, or you can get to it directly by going to www.ILikeSIX.blogspot.com
We have a few private gigs lined up for 2008 - a party in January, and a fundraiser at the Lawrence Academy in Groton in April. This event is notable in that we will be sharing the bill with "Five O'Clock Shadow", one of the area's premier a cappella (vocals only) bands. What we had HOPED to announce was that SIX was scheduled to also be sharing the bill with the "New Guitar Summit", a jazz trio which includes J. Geils of the legendary J. Geils Band - yes, for a fleeting few weeks, SIX was preparing to announce to the world that we would be opening for J. Geils! Unfortunately, the event organizers felt that the group would not have been a good draw for the money spent, and they were dropped from the bill. Amazing! SIX is considered a bigger draw than J. Geils! ;-)
Unfortunately for the masses, our currently scheduled upcoming gigs are closed events, but fear not. There will be more opportunities for public displays of SIX in 2008 - stay tuned!!

Omigod, it was so amazing! That January gig was very cool. Great fans who danced all night, a birthday girl (OK, so maybe she was celebrating her 50th) who was oh so gracious, and megafun for the band members as well. Unbelievable party!! How about that Harley track bike ad with Jodi aboard? Many thanks Dennis, Jodi and friends! -- Walter
